Anaheim Hills Golf Course is my favorite of the California courses I have played. It isn't the most well maintained or prettiest, but the natural setting of it is what I like so much. It has a great layout and the best views of just about anywhere I've ever been.
Some of the notable features:
The first hole has tiered teeboxes lined with concrete. It is like you are hitting off of a grass patio.
You may have seen dogleg holes, but hole 4 is the severest of all. All you do is drive the ball about 175 yards straight. The second shot is back over your left shoulder about a sand wedge away. You can't cut the corner because the hill is too steep and the weeds are too tall. Even if you could hit the ball that high and that far, you would overshoot the green.
Hole 12 is the monster. A long par 5 uphill. If the flag is on the front of the green and you hit your approach past it, you are guaranteed of rolling off the green (and down the hill) on your first putt. 7 is a pretty good score! The best thing about this hole is that when you put the flagstick back in and look back towards the fairway, you can see the entire course (and much of the county). You feel like the King of the World from this green. (newsbreak 5/8/03 - I parred this hole!)
The cart drive from 12 to 13 is my favorite place in the whole world! Gives me goosebumps.
Since you are already on top of a huge hill from 12, you can really blast your tee shot on 13. It's a long (205) par 3, but if you can only hit it straight, you're there.
15 is the one that you can really kill your tee shot!! You can see a picture of the tee box on my home page. The hill is so steep going down that the cart path crosses the fairway three times from the white tees to the fairway.
If you play anywhere in California, play here. It's the cheapest place we go to and you will enjoy playing here.
