Trip 5
November 26 - 28, 1997

This was a somewhat hurried trip trying to squeeze in a day and a half on our way home from Disneyland. My wife and I were accompanied by my mother-in-law, my daughter and her husband, and our three younger kids, ages 15, 12, and 9.
Luxor Hotel (seems like the three rooms were $800.00 a night)&Mac255;
It took forever to get checked into the Luxor. Why? this has got to be changed. We had tons of luggage and I’m glad we allowed the bellman to take it up to our room. We had three adjoining rooms in the tower (north side) and a great view of the Excalibur (at night it was brightly lit, and REALLY majestic. A once in a lifetime sight!) The first two rooms were standard luxury rooms, and our room was a little bigger with a den, dining and kitchen area. A large marble floored bathroom that was just gorgeous. The rooms were very nice although not really worth 800 bucks a night. 500, yes. The worst thing was it takes about 10 minutes of walking to get to the rooms from the front door. We carried our own luggage when we left and that was like a trip across the USA. Whew!

The first night we were rushed to catch Mystére, so we went to the Luxor buffet and quickly ate all we could and ran to catch two cabs for Treasure Island.
Mystére was better than the last time, but not as good as the first time. We had great seats in section 203 about 13 rows up. We all enjoyed it.

Later we came back to the hotel and got some burgers from McDonald’s. Yum yum.

Four of us ate breakfast at the buffet while the other three went to McDonald’s. The breakfast was great. There was a chef who would make you an omelette any way you wanted it and it sure was good. Add to that all the usual breakfast trimmings and it was a very tasty breakfast. The kind you like to load down on before sitting down to a day of Thanksgiving football games on the TV. Ahhhhh!

That afternoon, we came back to the buffet (it really is convenient) for Thanksgiving dinner. The idea of having Thanksgiving dinner in a Las Vegas casino really does not appeal to me, but under the circumstances, I think they did a real god job with it. The lunch was terrific and we had more time to enjoy it this time.

Thursday night, we went to see Lance Burton at the Monte Carlo. What a grand showroom. Great show, great time, great magic.

We visited the Mirage and the Forum shops at Caesar’s during our show trips. We walked out of Caesar’s (I always get lost in that place) and to the right of where the fountains were (a lot of construction going on), thinking we could catch a cab. No cab stand and by this time, we were in the street. We crossed over to the Flamingo and had to ask some police officers where we could catch a cab (or in our case, two cabs). You have to walk to the rear of the hotel to get a cab.
Another memorable sight was New York, New York. Walking by the front of that place is a real spectacle.

This trip was too quick. There were too many of us trying to do too many things in too short a time. Oh yeah, it rained. We need a do-over.&Mac255;
